I know a guy under 25 who thinks exactly that it's not about what it actually is about.

But then again, when you're Dutch, like him, or me for that matter this song will automatically sound nothing like what it's supposed to be about.

well i saw a documentary that said that for this song bob made the whole band smoke weed and get drunk ... and they had a great time playing :P

I guess my point is that it's not just about getting stoned as in high, although it certainly uses that as a punch-line, and no question about it being a totally intentional double entendre...Dylan is FAR too great of a wordsmith to have hit on that by accident!

It's just that some folks who've never listened all that closely (or well) to this or other Dylan songs sometimes ONLY get that part of the reference and miss the bigger point.
