Filipino peasants led by the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (Peasant Movement of the Philippines, KMP) camped on the foot of Mendiola Bridget (now Chino Roces Bridget) near the presidential palace called Malacanang to call for genuine land reform in the country and protest against Charter Change. Recent moves in Philippine Congress to amend the Constitution aim to allow, among others, 100 percent ownership of land to foreigners, especially multinational corporations. KMP and other people's organizations protest these moves, saying that Charter Change will further impoverish the peasants, workers and other oppressed sectors in the country.
