"What Do Presbyterians Think About Predestination & Grace" - Rev. James Goodenberger

The Rev. James E. Goodenberger, the pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Duluth's presentation on 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in Somers Lounge at The College of St. Scholastica.

His free presentation is part of the "What Do Protestants Think About ..." lecture series sponsored by St. Scholastica's Braegelman Catholic Studies Program and the offices of Campus Ministry and Residential Life.

Goodenberger's talk is entitled "What Do Presbyterians Think About ... Predestination and Grace?" The Rev. Jack Darragh of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Hamilton, MT, provided a response.

Catholic Studies at St. Scholastica is a program that explores the Catholic intellectual tradition with students and the larger community.

Between Mr. Goodenberger's equivocating pleasantries, the truth of Calvinist predestination slips out. If it's all so hunky-dory and predestination is such a non-issue, why hold to predestination at all?

He never really says what he actually believes- is everyone saved? Surely, some passages suggest that. Or, does God act as an active agent of damnation as Rom 9:18 suggests?

We can't depend on a lecture when we die where this is all reconciled- we've one life.
