People need to start learning their facts before they post. Pregnancy causes organs to move more than corsets ever did. No women ever died from tightlacing and there is plenty of modern medical evidence to support this. It's bad attitudes like yours that prevent women from enjoying this beautiful and COMFORTABLE garment today.

Actually that's a ridiculous rumor. No women have EVER done this. The rumor even persists today regarding people like Cher. Trust me, it's wrong, and very silly to believe it.

The main rason was for a fashiionable shape. In the 1900's you diid not have to wear lots of layers to be modest but you had to in order to be fashionable. In the 1860's not everbody wore the wide dresses held out by a crinoline. Women without the hoop was just as modest.

You can still look nice today if you shop at places like Cato's. You can find nice stuff online too.
