A new partnership between the Theatres at Mall of America® and Autism Speaks® will benefit the entire autism community throughout the Twin Cities area. Sensory-friendly films offer families struggling with autism an opportunity to enjoy a family outing in a safe and accepting environment. Simple adjustments like turning the sound down, leaving the lights up and offering additional staff within the theater to help with concessions, make a film screening sensory-friendly, and welcoming to families who struggle with autism. Audience members are welcome to dance, sing, and walk around without judgment or scrutiny.

We currently offer "Free Family Flicks" every Saturday morning at 10 a.m., presented by MomsLikeMe.com. This partnership will expand these offerings to sensory-friendly showings.

To kick off this initiative, we will begin sensory-friendly films on Saturday, September 24th at 10:30 a.m., following the 5th Annual Minnesota Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Mall of America®. This is a free showing of Yogi Bear and tickets will be available within the Resource Fair at the Autism Speaks fundraising walk. Visit www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/minnesota for more information about the Walk.
