This is a short clip of a Tomiki Tournament in Japan. I have huge respect for Tomiki practioners because unlike other styles of Aikido they actually step up and compete.

  • Ki-Aikido is third rate Aikido at best.

  • bwahahahahahah

  • Foolish and mockery of true aikido? Well how come they still allow to have a tournament like this and JAA Still recognize this system? and to think Kenji Tomiki is the first Pres. of Japan Aikido Associatin...

  • leave it alone hooyah. People like him think of Aikido as more of a religion than a martial art.

  • All im saying is that this is second rate Aikido.

  • What gives you the right to say that? Have you went to a Tomiki dojo and tried these guys out? Randori and doing drills are completely different things. When I say randori I mean going hand to hand with these guys while you both are trying to throw each other. In other words sparring.

  • Did Ueshiba dismiss Kano's judo because it had competition? No. The two held one another in great regard. This technique works exceptionally well against stronger opponents- I've thrown a 100kg opponent with it in competition (I'm 70kg). I'm sure denouncing those who chose a different approach based on personal bias goes more against the "true teachings of aikido" than trying to understand one another and treat others with respect.

  • ^amen

  • If this is second rate aikido, pleas explain what is first rate aikido? and what are the qualative differences?

  • Im not knocking Aikido, i train Tomiki Aikido and kungfu. So i get a lot of sparring training. 1 thing iv learned for certain, if you don't practice some form of sparring, in a street fight you will have problems.

  • "it is all strenght wich would not work if your opponent was stronger" "horrible technique"

Welcome to the world of combat, it sometimes isn't pretty and if your counting on a flashy move working on the street 4get about it. Aikido is seriously powerfull and dangerous. But u will not complete 1 technique if your not used to dealing with resisting opponents.

  • As for being "foolish and a mockery of true Aikido teachings"ETC..

    1. Ueshiba told his students to make aikido there own, so thats what they did, so def not a mockery of true teachings.

    2. Tomiki Aikido has a big advantage over other styles of aikido being the willingness to put there skills to the test.

  • The founder Ueshiba told his students to go and make aikido there own. Kenji Tomiki was also a high ranking Judo expert as well as one of Ueshiba's best 1st generation students. Tomiki Aikido is a great style and the only Aikido that has any interest in testing against resisting opponents.
