This is a Routering robot we call the RoboRouter. It uses 1hp 18000rpm air motors to spin three tools, a 90degree router bit, a straight router, and a carbide saw blade. The robot also has a rotary table that allows the operator to load new tops and unload finished ones while the robot is operating. This means that the robot is up 100% of the time, as long as the operator can keep up! They cut about 10 different tops on that robot now and probably cut 40 a day (one shift). This robot replaced 3-4 people, 8 hours a day, letting them move those people to less physically demanding jobs.

  • If the work envelope is hidden behind the rotating wall, why bother with the roller door? Seems excessive.

  • @aggrav8d The work envelope of the robot is hidden behind a hard wall, yes. But the roll-up door is there to prevent people from being in proximity to the positioner when it indexes. You have to guard it somehow, and the roll-up door just allows you to be a little closer than a light curtain does.

  • These tools make a lot of noise in the plastic so the roll up door also mitigates some of that noise for the operator.

  • why can't we post???

  • ATI QC-20 robotic tool changers give some excellent flexibility.

  • That Rocks!
