The music for this slide show is by Graham H Jackson from his CD Transparencies. http://www.grahamsmusic.com We, our study group in Richmond Hill, Ontario, have had the privilege of listening to his weekly improvisations on the piano. His grand piano is tuned to A=432, and to a system of tuning discovered by Maria Renold which allows nearly all the 5ths to be natural 5ths, resulting in a more resonant and satisfying sound than the usual tempered tuning.(NOT AS I SAY IN THE TITLE: PERFECT 5TH, BUT NATURAL 5TH as above) I feel that his CD's have a healing force in them, and would like to encourage more people to explore this tuning and in particular -- Graham's music....
What is Different About the Tuning?

There are two differences.
1.The piano is tuned to a certain lower pitch (A= 432 Hz or C= 256 Hz.) which is reputed to be more natural and healthful, and which has been used quite a bit in past centuries. There is an international movement, including some renowned musicians, to make this the standard concert pitch, replacing A= 440. The standard pitch (440), while more "brilliant", has been blamed for contributing to the already high stress levels of our time.
2.Instead of the usual equal temperament, this piano is tuned to the "twelve true-fifths tuning" discovered (or invented) by Maria Renold, which, having more natural intervals, allows for an increased resonance.

MY PIANO IS TUNED THAT WAY TOO.. MANY BLESSINGS FROM grahamsmusicfan/Marianne in Canada

  • Very pleasant sound and an interesting study.

I've been reading quite a bit recently on tuning to A432, and I have begun tuning my guitar to that pitch.
