The Fourth of July is an inviting time for aficionados of fireworks displays. Tens of

thousands of Californians take to the streets in celebration of Independence Day by cracking fireworks. Unfortunately, in many instances, they may be breaking the law in the process.

Our Santa Monica criminal defense lawyers are well-versed in the California state laws that regulate and prohibit fireworks.

Per Santa Monica Municipal Code Section 8.40.020, "all fireworks [are] illegal in the City of Santa Monica including California State Fire Marshal Safe and Sane."

If you violated or have been charged with violating California's fireworks laws, you may face the following consequences:

- filing of misdemeanor or even felony charges.

- seizure of your fireworks

And if you are convicted, you may be imprisoned for up to 1 year in the county jail and pay up to $1000 in fines.

Conviction of dangerous fireworks possession can subject you to anywhere from 16months to up to three years in the California State Prison, and fines up to $50,000.

Our Santa Monica illegal fireworks defense lawyers, Los Angeles illegal fireworks defense

lawyers will thoroughly review your case and explore any available defenses, including that the police, fire officials or other law enforcement seized the fireworks in violation of your right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures under the Fourth Amendment.
