Deputy Secretary of Commerce Hightower - Address to the AMCHAM-EU in Brussels, march 26, 2010.
Clip Transcript:
"History has shown, however, that when the U.S. and Europe work together we can achieve measurable and concrete results that benefit citizens throughout the world. The companies that do business in this transatlantic space are the backbone of this successful and long term economic relationship. Despite the economic downturns that were all feeling, both on our side of the Atlantic and on this side of the Atlantic, the transatlantic trade and investment relationship remains the largest commercial artery in the world. We cant forget the importance of it.

Theres no other collaboration like that. And weve got to figure out how do we get more leverage out of what has been the most successful partnership that probably has ever existed.
We have one thought on that, and we think that we can continue to do that. WE can continue to leverage this through one very simple word, and that is innovation. As we think about what President Obama said in his National Innovation Strategy, that innovation is clearly the driver for sustainable growth, and I underline sustainable. Not one shot, but sustainable growth, and quality jobs."
