i remember in 1984 that ford was considering bringing the cortina out of retirement as the sierra was 2nd to the cav.
-
For a year it outsold the cortina as it offered saloon and hatchback. But I remember was the cheap dashboard and when the sun got on it, creeked badly with squeeks and rattles. Novas and astras were'nt much better. Plus no under bumper protection where rusted started first. However its engine was its charm. ford still put the cortinas engine in its rear wheeled drive sierra.

Very poor rustproofing all of mine had to have welding i think this is why they disappeared so fast .The engines and gearboxes were superb and and were reliable .
-
I had 3 of these the engines last forever and take so much abuse .

@Fatoldbear Sure the Royale was a 4 door saloon mate which later became the Senator and Opel Monza was same car just 3 dr fastback body with a huge engine and feeble performance sub 170hp.
-
parents had 1984 model 1.6 L China Blue, engine was shit camshaft disintergrated Vauxhall didnt want to know and fobbed parents off, steering was heavy and only a 4 speed gearbox which eventually let go, if memory serves me rite they sold it with 45K miles, bought a Nissan Bluebird in 86 which was trouble free motoring. Vauxhall never built reliable cars, they built dull stodgy rep fodder.Hence the reason why Britain has no real home grown manufacturers anymore. Shoddy workmanship.

@PeaveyPV20 Times change. Car design's change.
-
They weren't a bad car, although they were a bit poor in the rust-proofing department.

The advert is before 1985 as the cars were facelifted slightly in early 85. The car on the ad is probably 84 been a A reg
