First engine test of the game Pamela's Story.
The project came about as a result of an aborted Ludum Dare entry and the idea to make an animated Christmas card for my girlfriend. In typical fashion, I underestimated how long it would take to make and couldn't complete the Christmas card in the time allotted, so I decided to spend the time and effort to turn it into a full-featured 2D engine that will eventually be used to build an action RPG.
(The dragging audio is a result of my computer being too slow to run the game and the capture software at the same time.)
What it does correctly so far:
- Lightmapping
- Dynamic lighting on sprites
- Refractive water (might be hard to see in this movie)
- Ambient sounds (might be hard to hear in this movie)
- Multiple scrolling layers with colour fog on background layers
- Entity vs world collision
What's still missing:
- Enemies
- Traps
- Story triggers
- Item forging
All the code and content you see in play here was created by one person in about five days.
looks like made in terraria ;p
