My Diabetes

New years eve 09 my son Zachary went into full DKA from diabetes. He spent the next 5 days in Seattle Children's hospital. These are some conversations I had with him about his illness while he was hospitalized .

was he just putting on weight for know reason as one of his symptoms first or did he loose it because ive got all them symptoms and im putting on weight am 13 and im 15 stone but i dont eat all the stuff that would make you put on weight i hardly eat chocolate or fat stuff ive been checked for diabetes but i have to get checked again because there wasent enough blood but i hope its not and my symptoms are lips dry drinking loads of water and eating lots going the toliet lots and fatigue and week

@09multikatie Hi this is Zacks dad. I am afraid these are all signs of diabetes. If I were you I would go get a simple blood test done so you can be sure. Not only does my son have diabetes but so do I and my sister had it. It is nothing to be afraid of but you MUST get diagnosed and if you have it you must listen to the doctors and do everything they say so you live a healthy and long life.

I take it you are from England because you mentioned your weight in stones. Zack was born in England

because it takes ages to get an appointment for blood test and after that you have to wait for a couple of days ive had these symptoms for about 2 months now how did your son get diagnosed did he go the doctors or to the hospital its just also recently ive felt verry tired and no matter how i try to loose weight it dosent go the only person in my family who had diabetes wa my mum but that was the one when your pregnant.i hope you dnt mind me asking thanks your messages have helped thank you

yes i come from england i had bloodtest done for diabetes and other ones but i have to get 2 more done because they didnt get enough blood or somethink but it has to be the diabetes one and another one i have to get done again the doctors are crap here they act like when your telling them your symptoms they say we will give you an appointment for a blood test and thats not good because if it is that that it could be serious also did your son feel faint like a grey cloud covrring his face thanks

hi im 13 did you find when you were putting on weight that no matter how hard you tried to loose it it wouldnt go ive got that im drinking lots and going the toliet lots and am tired and weak and dry lips is that what symptoms you had

i have diabetes i was just diagnosed i know its scary when you find out! But you get so used to it! i know what he went through i have type 1 diabetes!
