( NaNoWriMo 2011 ) Day 27.

So close to the end now! There's only a few days left, and I'm left than 1.5k from hitting the target! :D

Cole woke gasping, sick to his stomach and soaked in sweat, eyes flying open at once as he fought to get both air and his bearings at the same time. The ground under him shifted and he almost unbalanced himself, and then came the pain, white hot and merciless, and he buckled back down with a weak and watery cry, his eyes closing tightly against the sudden tears that sprang to the surface, his teeth gritted and his jaw clenched for the agony that threatened to eat him alive from within.

Hands were on him then and he remembered the boy, that young face hovering over him, and he panicked, thrashing to get away and only tangling himself in something that covered his legs up to his waist where the pain was at its worst. Movement only made it worse and he cried against it, his throat raw and his voice coming out in a rough howl.

"Coulson." The voice was firm but there was a gentleness to it, a softness he recognised at once, and instinctively he stilled, opening his eyes again to take in a familiar face. It was not the boy who had loomed over him outside the town, shaking his shoulder and asking if he was all right, but a woman, and one whose face and voice and scent he would know anywhere.
