Understanding the Trucking Company's Sensor Trac Data (00:01:54)
Michael Goldberg: I want to talk to you a little about sensor trac data. When you have a big trucking company that uses the Qualcomm system, many of them use what's called a sensor trac system. Sensor trac takes the ECM data from the electronic control module in the tractor, and it uses that along with the GPS system to track things such as fuel consumption. And that's mainly what its used for, to make sure that the trucking company is using fuel wisely. But part of that also tracks mileage and distance during certain time periods. Now, we have on this screen, an example of a sensor trac printout and you can see from the sensor trac printout, what it does is it gives you data from a start period to an end period. Then it gives you distance and hours that the engine is on, as well as over speed, when its going over a certain mile per hour, and when its idle which means that it's on but it's not being driven. Now if we look down here at a certain entry, you'll see that during a five day period, this tractor was driven 2,376 miles which is a lot of distance for a five day period. And the engine was actually on for ninety-two hours of that time period. And of course, we know if you're looking at the hours of service that you're allowed, that is probably over the hours of service if that was one driver driving during that time period. So you want to find the sensor trac data and look at it to see if it matches up with driver's logs, and if the driver was over his hours of service. It's one of the things you need to get especially on companies that use the Qualcomm system, which is most large trucking companies.
