NOTICE: I've got a video for 4500 mph which dwarfs this one. This is, perhaps, the fastest you've ever seen in Super Monkey ball 2 and no cheats are required for it to happen. If you think falling off the top of the gravity slider stage is fast (which gives about 530 mph), that's slow compared to this massive stunt. In fact, it's more than 4 times faster than that giving more than 20 times the height.

Here, I got tossed straight up at 2400 mph and reach 80% of the clipping range. From this height, the stage is but a mere spec and the stage comes up so fast that you get practically no time to react. Yet, even with this, I attempt to make the goal. It's easier than it seems. This particular level (world 5-5 in story mode) allows for up to 4000 mph going straight up. Whether slow or fast, it's mostly luck that influences the success rate.

I did use Action Replay to stop the game clock though. Without doing that, you couldn't get the full experience of the extreme speed as you'd run out of time just after the speed reaches 999 mph on the way back down from the first big toss up.

How do I know that it is 2400 mph when the speed only shows 999? There's two ways. First, when the ball falls, it falls at 79.5 mph per second without any joystick movement (around 72 for 1 direction and 64 for 2 (2 is diagonally)), (or about 0.098 meters per second per frame). 30 seconds of this means 30*79.5 or roughly 2385 mph. The second method, the easiest, is the bounce. The speed after a bounce is based on this formula: "(0.5+sin(ImpactAngle))/2". "sin" is the sine function and ImpactAngle is that of the direction the ball is going relative to the plane of the polygon hit. The ball is hitting perpendicularly (ImpactAngle is 90°) so the speed is cut in half. After two bounces, the speed becomes 600 mph. Working backwards, doubling this twice, gives 2400 mph and that's how I got it. There is a 50 mph margin of error though due to the awkward speed change with the controls. This is for the most likely range, for 95% certainty. The best method, for 100% certainty and 1.5 mph margin of error, is using debug mode which requires Action Replay (I didn't have it enabled here).

  • ... I really miss this game... ( Lost copy)

  • You can buy another copy from Ebay and the like.

  • This game is really bad for how popular it is.

  • What do you mean? Do you mean the game itself is bad and has low popularity or is it high popularity and a bad game? Your statement reads like it could go either way.

The game is ridiculously overrated. I heard about it for years, and one day checked it out, and I was like are you serious, this is it? See, I'm not sure if this game is popular among people over the age of 12, but if it is, that's where my shock comes in. I dunno, I'm just hating, but it's a 3D Sonic The Hedgehog with no enemies/fighting that's not as good, and it's done well over 10 years after Sonic.
