A basic tutorial showing the concept behind getting colorization to work over very dark to black pixels or very light to white pixels. While it's easy to change color over pixels where the luminosity falls into the middle gray areas, it is different when the luminosity falls into the black or white area. Easy color changes on blue or green eyes, but not so with dark brown eyes. Easy color changes on a red green or blue dress but not on a black dress. The key is to bump the luminosity to a gray level using the output levels sliders and then use colorization methods to change or replace the color.

  • Couldnt you just use a gradiant map? That would be much easier.
