After all the jacks are in their boxes,
and the clowns have all gone to bed,
you can hear happiness staggering on down the street,
footprints dress in red.

And the wind whispers Mary.

A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterday's life.
Somewhere a Queen is weeping,
somewhere a King has no wife.

And the wind it cries Mary.

The traffic lights they turn blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed,
The tiny island sags downstream
'Cos the life that they lived is dead.

And the wind screams Mary.

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past,
And with this crutch, its old age and its wisdom
It whispers, "No, this will be the last."

And The Wind Cries Mary.

  • 0 people are retarded

  • @gorillazhead he does in some live versions, but that is only because he just stays in tune with most of his other song

  • too many good people have already 'come home' and Jimi is certainly up there as one of the good people.

  • i can't even begin to explain the beauty of this. you can literally FEEL the TIME and SPACE in this analog recording. so warm! i can hear the heat of the tubes in the amps. jimis voice, the mic and mic pre, the sound of the bass and drums especially in the last 30 seconds, the tape, the tube amps, the gear hissing, and the way the instruments sound. LOVE IT!!!! though the song is simple, these are some of the main things that make this song LITERALLY one of the greatest songs ever (my opinion)

  • jimi hendrix, the best there ever will be

  • @shoothingfire1 I love Hendrix! However, in my opinion, Jimi Page is a better guitarist. check out trampled underfoot by led zepplin and some of their other songs you should like the guitar

  • Awesome song!!!

  • Weird, he didn't tune down for this song...
