On 5/26/08 - Golden Gate Railroad Museum, along with the Pacific Locomotive Association ran the recently restored SP 2472 on 4 round-trips through the canyon. A diesel (SP GP 9 5623) was used from Sunol to Niles, while the 2472 pulled the train back uphill on the return to Sunol. This video was put together from footage shot of the third and fourth trains that day.

  • How long has this engine been operating in tourist serviece?

  • In Niles Canyon only a couple years but it used to reside in San Francisco and ran many excursions along the peninsula from the early 90's until the move.

  • nice video with good camerawork! I love the onboard shot at 1:10

  • I miss the 5623.

  • That was me waving at 1:23!!!

  • Great video!

  • Nice vid. I see where you got me with the group at the crossing near the end of the Video. For the next run, to get a shot away from the maddening crowds, I walked a good two miles to a lonely spot. Maybe not a good idea because after the walk back both feet have gotten BIG blisters and now I can move around much without being in pain. I think it was worth it though, and the weather was great!
