IBEW Local 1 in St. Louis has provided the best trained and most professional electrical work force to the Gateway City since 1891.

But now local Carpenters' union head Terry Nelson, with the support of UBC President Doug McCarron, is attacking Local 1 and trying to stealing its work.

Instead of organizing nonunion carpenters, Nelson is signing sweetheart deal with nonunion electrical contractors and lowering wage and benefit standards set by the IBEW over generations.

But the IBEW and the Building Trades are fighting back, telling Nelson and McCarron to do their jobs and stop wasting rank-and-file carpenters' dues money raiding other unions.

  • This makes me sick!!!!

  • @manse990 notice the language "former apprentice", you write in all caps FUCK UNIONS, the union have not in fact ruined wages they have fought for fair wages for what is a rapidly deteriorating working middle class. There are going to be those that are just there for a pay check no matter where you work. That is where the unions I feel are lacking by not ejecting those that don't give a shit about there job. Most electricians do care about the work being done and don't like the ones that don't.

  • how do you get a carpenter to suck a mans cock? tell him its an electricians job!

  • oh please stop with the ubiquitous (if your a union man you might need a dictionary) "union's fought for fair working wages".....The fact is by the mid-late sixties employers found through rigorous economic treatises that in fact IT was beneficial to efficiency and productivity to let employees gain more in wages and benefits. Now, I know you dont read mathematical charts but trust me- exponential gains were had not withstanding union bullying -..oh they pigs on the jobsite as well, less members

  • @cockyhemi well lets start with your handle "cockyhemi" enough said right there. First of all let me take this opportunity to tell you to go take a long walk on a short pier. Agreed there are those that are not honest in the upper echelon of the unions, that is why they have elections to vote those people out, which by the way was just done recently by Local 1. The new officers I believe are better than the last and only time will tell how much better. So rethink it because your wrong.

  • as a former apprentice in local3 i found that the union workers are for the most part lazy, and generally bad electrical installers....they smoke pot and drink beer at lunch breaks Union leaders claim that the quality of work is superior - ha ask a union electrician if they understand OHM's law or Kirchoff's voltage - current laws...give me a break...if I were building a complex or any structure i would not HIRE UNION ELECTRICIANS.FUCK UNIONS they ruined wages and destroyed the manufacturing jobs

  • If someone wants to pay less for labor that's the way it goes. It's called free enterprise. Dangerous my ass! Scare tactics as usual from some overpaid union bastards. Look, it's simple. Bring prices down and you'll get the work. Start telling your union leaders to stop being a bunch of fucking crooks. You're fighting the wrong people and the puppetmasters are laughing all the way to the bank.

  • Clean up the language Brothers,I.B.E.W. members are better than these posts would suggest.

  • @mannexx111 Been around, maybe not as much as some. Understanding, as 3rd generation I know the way it was. There is too much power in the wrong places. My own local blacklisted a man and cost the members millions to defend.I have seen several locals, one thing I can tell you, there is a lot of greed. It has been forgotten what we are meant to be. But the younger generations are starting to see the issues, and can be taught. We need SOLIDARITY and LEADERS. Change comes with action, not talk.

  • @paleface6167 I agree hanging the cabinet is your work. IBEW should work with you on that. That does not mean that you can wire the light and hang the cabinet. Any member that would hang your cabinet, is a RAT. I do know for fact that other trades have been stealing IBEW work for years. Boilermakers usually, but startin a rival Electrical union is the Icing on the cake, and could be considered "first blood." I agree with your point, but also venture that no one side is completely innocent.

  • @mannexx111 I am sorry for your losses. But I do have to say attend your meetings. If the members would come together we can change these injustices. The problem is not with the corupt, the problem is we have no Solidarity left. As for being around, MY grandfather helped build the IBEW as did my father, I am heartbroken as to the shape that it has become. The bitter people with no solidarity left. The lack of leadership. The abundance of bitching and shortage of action.
