Just months after the island of Martha's Vineyard played host to the first ever JawsFest, a REAL Great White shark entered a pond in the nearby island chain called the Elizabeth Islands. But this shark was in no big hurry to leave the tiny inlet. The shark hung around for over a week and my family and I had the good fortune to drive down to Woods Hole from New Hampshire, pay a guy $100 and have him take us out to the pond in his very small, but incredibly fast boat! Our adventure paid off, as we did indeed catch a glimpse of the shark, and my camera batteries held out just long enough to capture the giant beast thrashing his dorsal fin and tail at an approaching boat. A once in a lifetime experience for a bigtime JAWS nut.

The spot is private property, owned by the Forbes family, and, on top of that, authorities were limiting the number of people who could get up close so as not to endanger the shark (or themselves!). The fact that some moron threw something at it from off the bridge in the closing seconds of the video is proof that the authorities were right in keeping people back.

  • Man, if I lived there I would TOTALLY be standing on that bridge throwing the shark food.
