On Sunday, August 17, 2008 at approximately 2:52pm, a Pomona Police K-9 Officer notified our dispatch center that he had been involved in a traffic collision. He further advised that the driver, later identified as Guadalupe Perez, was attempting to flee the scene. Officers responded to the K-9 officer's aid and were able to take suspect Perez into custody.
The officer sustained a contusion to his right arm and pain to his neck, back and shoulders and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated and released. His partner, K9 "Buddy" was transported to a local veterinarian hospital for treatment and observation. The marked police unit that they were in sustained major damage a result of this collision.
Suspect Perez was found to be an unlicensed driver and driving while under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released for booking. He was transported to the Pomona City Jail where he was booked for Felony Hit & Run with Injuries and driving while under the influence alcohol. His bail was set at $100,000.
