This is the original version of I Miss You not put on PNC's album Rookie Card due to sample issues. PNC is one of NZ's top rappers, who released his debut album Rookie Card in 2006, I really recomend you check that album out coz its dope.
Produced by Fire & Ice
"Jordan from Fire & Ice sent me this early on in the beat-sourcing process for Rookie Card.
It was one of those joints where I instantly knew I wanted to use it and what I wanted it to be about,
but (and all rappers know this struggle) the sample was a massive song, in this case being Brian McKnight's "Anytime".
Suffice to say we got denied for the clearance and had to go back to the drawing board.
I hit up Chong Nee, the only dude I thought could do it justice,
and he came up with another nice piano backdrop and the chorus.
P-Money wasn't stoked on the remake,
so me and 41 sat down and put in some what he called "bad boy shiny sounds"
and in the end I thought it turned out as good if not better than the original.
This song was simultaneously the hardest and easiest song to write from Rookie Card.
Hard because you never really want to bring all those feelings up again and confront them,
easy because once pen hit pad the song basically wrote itself."
LYRICS:
verse 1:
"hey gran its been a year since you passed away,
since the last time i ever got to glance your face,
in the hospital had i lost embrace,
watching you though i never had the chance to say,
you were a best friend, my heart the beat in my chest,
and when you died i felt inside a part of me left,
the death of my other mother you were one of the two,
people on this earth that were there to follow me through,
lifes ups and downs you were who i could trust,
my luck to have such and unconditional love,
so its tough not having you to chill with and relax,
to build with on current affairs wish you could be back,
i tried to cover the tears seems life was wrong,
truthfully i've been too scared to write this song,
but i long to see you again,
with every breath my pain just a test to the depths
of which i miss you
verse 2:
i miss driving you meals, i miss all that mess,
chilling at your house watching all the all black tests,
i was all that blest, to have had you here,
before pnc started his rap career,
you gave me cash for years,
with the sum i'd trade,
to have you back in fielding for a one off day,
feeling the sun shaded since your life faded,
i'm stripped a little of simple pleasures,
since you're gone but i know you want your grandson
to move on with dilligance,
in the name of E.F Hanson i'm killing this game,
i hope wherever you lay you're chilling,
with grand dad beer in hand, Hurricanes winning,
coronation street on repeat, the phones ringing,
to interupt me in a nutshell, hope you're grinning gran,
i know you're grinning gran,
yeah i can picture you,
i had to drop this here
to show we're really missing you
does anyone have the lyrics to this song?
