Depression is not sadness; it is a loss of connection with the powershouse of core emotion inside us. Depression is an experience of having lost touch with ourselves. When we are depressed we have disconnected from the truth of our emotions, from the information and energy that flows through us like a river. As a result we become paralyzed and stuck, and we lose hope that things can be different.

It is vulnerable to experience deep feelings. If we have not had repeated experiences of being held in the heart and mind of another when we have faced intense emotion, we may have felt overwhelmed. Overwhelm is a frightening state that leads us to shut down our feelings.

Wen we are able to reconnect with the flow of emotion, even if it is painful or difficult, we are able to reclaim our energy, concentration, passion, and aliveness. We need to grow our ability to tolerate the felt sense of vulnerability in order to free ourselves from the suffocating numbness of depression.

  • @nokiannie Thank you for sharing on my video - we all need to matter to ourselves - and that can be hard to do if we have neglected what is going on inside us or judged it/ourselves harshly for a long time. Ignoring and judging are habits - to break them we need to pay attention to what we are feeling in the moment in the body - and just notice in a mindful way without judgment. Precise nonjudgmental attention to sensations in the body is the beginning of mattering. You deserve to matter.

  • wow. that's bang on.

  • I can't cope with depression or anxiety, I always feel like dieing. 6 months with no meds or insurance to see a doctor. America sucks and is forcing us into the military. Now they offer more benefits than any job out there.

  • This expresses exactly how i feel, when you ignore your feelings you start to ignore everything that matters to you.
