  • The movie was good, but thank god this scene was cut out! 💩

  • @SlayerDarth It is boring to for 2 people to have a continuing "conversation" on YouTube. Thus I will make this final response on Glen being a HACK director. You correctly point out a few (note: few) well-done scenes in Glen's Bond movies. But, a few well-done scenes do NOT make a movie great, or even good.

Compare Glen's Bond movies with the great ones (Goldfinger, FRWL, Thunderball) then ask yourself why no one has hired him to direct a movie (any movie) in over 10 years.

  • @intrepidman222 FYEO - There was less of an emphasis on the gadgets used. Bond mostly used his strength and wits to overcome enemies. You have to admit, there were plenty of good scenes throughout the film, such as the death of Gonzales and the ensuing battle, the subsequent car chase, etc. Also, the snow chase was first-rate, IMO.

Octopussy - The opening scene w/ 009 was interesting, as was the briefing amongst the Soviet leaders in the Politburo w/ General Orlov and the tuk-tuk chase.

  • @intrepidman222 AVTAK - Not all of it sucked. There were some interesting scenes, for instance when one of Zorin's investors was thrown out of the airship, the final climactic battle on top of the Golden Gate Bridge, the scene where Zorin guns down several of his own workers, etc.

Living Daylights - Necros' infiltration of the Bladen safe house was pretty slick, as was his fight against Bond onboard the Soviet cargo plane, etc. Plenty of good moments which presented Bond differently.

  • @SlayerDarth

FYEO - The opening scene where "Blofeld" tells 007, "I'll buy you a delicatessen, in stainless steel.' The ending scene where Margaret Thatcher appears. 2 examples of how off-track the movie is. (The battle in the warehouse is decent.)

Octopussy - The fight between the Amazons and the Indian guards is just plain silly

Good fantasy maybe, but it doesn't belong in a Bond film.

  • @SlayerDarth

AVTAK - The whole movie sucked. "California Girls" playing over a ski chase? WTF?!

Living Daylights - Convoluted plot, and the movie gets lost during the desert scenes. Lines like, "Well, I must be off. Meeting with the PM this afternoon." Yeah, right. Like people really talk like that.

LTK - The tanker scene is good. Robert Davi is great. But the rest of the movie has no sense of style.

I could go on...but we'll have to agree to disagree.

  • @SlayerDarth John Glen directed some of the most believable Bond films in the series. Whereas Moore's early Bond films were more comic and nonsensical in nature, the Moore films directed by Glen and the Dalton ones were more serious. Also, Octopussy even managed to do better with regards to box office sales than NSNA, which had Connery in the lead role. And many people admired the character of Max Zorin, who was in a Bond film directed by Glen. If anything, Glen's films are severely underrated

  • @intrepidman222 There was For Your Eyes Only, which people believed was one of Moore's best films as Bond and which many believed would have served as a great Bond film for him to use for his departure as Bond.

Glen's films had some of the most realistic, yet innovative and practical gadgets and some of the most fantastic stunts in the series, for instance the semi-truck stunts in LTK, the plane stunt and moving train stunt in Octopussy, etc. Also, LTK captured the essence of Flemin'g works.

  • @SlayerDarth You cannot be serious. Every one of Glen's Bond movies lost more money than the previous one he directed - with the exception of "Living Daylights" - and that's only because of Dalton taking over the role. None of his Bond movies are considered among the "classics."

Quick...name a non-Bond movie directed by Glenn that was either a financial or artistic success. Let's see there was, um...oh, yeah, and then there's also....oh, dear.

  • @intrepidman222 What are you talking about? John Glen directed some of the most intense, creative yet plausible Bond films in the entire series.
