Q&A what do relays do in a car + some lightning I filmed at the end

This is a video explaining the purpose of a relay or relays in a car.
but relays are not just used in cars there in loads of things your fridge will most probably have one in it even and electric oven uses relays wired to the thermostat to control the heating elements.
There are also loads of different types of relays from the simple switch relay to solid state relays.
The one I show in the video is just a simple duel contact switch relay

There was a storm going on in the back ground quite a bad one, but unfortunately my peanut sized memory card in the camera couldnt capture it all, but I did get a good one at the end

Hey, i understand the part about the wire thickness, however, it was taught to me that the relay is supposed to isolate the large current associated with the starter motor from the driver of the car, i.e. there should be a small current between the key and the relay..but what i dont understand is that the circuit with the key, and the isolated circuit connecting the relay and starter, are both connected to the same battery, hence, wouldnt the simple circuit also possess a high current?

Um, most starters I've seen have the chassis as the ground and just the 10Gage wire going to one terminal on the starter motor.
