Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania is classified as an impulse control disorder whereby the person has compulsive urges to pull out their own hair. (Trichotillomania can have both a physical and emotional impact.)

MAJOR UPDATE:
Since this video, the hair loss has increased dramatically.
I've now been bald for a year due to the amount of pulling.

YOU MUST READ:

(Hello, my name is Rebecca Brown, I am 16 years old and I have Trichotillomania...)

The majority of the video was recorded on the 16th of May 2009. At the time I was 16. People tend to forget the date this was recorded/uploaded... My hair issues have worsened since this video.

May - July 2009 the remaining hair gradually disappeared.
July 2009 - I had all my hair cut off.
December 2009 - Doing well, but major patch on top by Christmas.
April 2010 - May 2010 - Lost all the hair again. Completely bald one side.
July 2010 - No hair on left side, had it shaved short at the back.
August 2010 - it grew back - however in two days, I ripped it all out again.

- Where am I now? I am about to turn 18.
- I have now taken medication - failed.
- I find tying my hands to tables etc - stops pulling (but not the urges.)
- Felt embarrassed in relationships and at work.
- Pulling like there's no tomorrow, in two months, I've been bald twice - whilst on holiday. If I can do this during the "relaxing" time of the year - I have no hope.

Hi. I don't have trich. Well at least I think I don't. This video kinda freaked me out. Not in a bad way. I think you're so brave to do this. But then you showed how you did it when you were younger, like you twirled it. I'm 14, and I've been twirling my hair since I was a baby. Not pulling, just twirling.

i have it to. i HAVE pulled out all all my hair in front of my head. im almost bald. My friends have had to take away all my sisters, nail clippers, etc. i hate it. ALL THE GIRLS IN MY SCHOOL HAVE HAIR DOWN TO THE BUTTS. and im sitting there in the back of the class surrounded by hair. I usally pull out lets see most of my hair behind my ears the front of my face the sides the bottom of my hair the back of my head and right now i have half an eyebrow on one side

I had minor trich when I was little, it started out twirling then ended up with pulling. I know how you feel. Sometimes my friends would say, 'stop twirling your hair' but i wouldnt even know i had been twirling. All i can say is there is hope. i started to get bald spots (thank god my hair was thick in the first place) and i felt horrible. but after 7 years of it, it was finally gone.

For the people out there with Trich (like me) they now have tangles that are metal and plain. There so much better and i havnt had mine taken off me yet so yaya :D Ur so inspirational Beckie xxx
