Several years ago, I can remember seeing Brazilian cardinals in petshops. Back then they were all wild caught and not exactly the best choice for a bird cage. In an aviary, however, they can thrive and since almost all zoo birds (and other animals) are captive bred, they do especially well.

This one certainly seems to be thriving. It is so energetic and active, and it has such a cute little plump body.
