Bilin weekly demonstration reenacts the Avatar film

Date: 12/02/2010

The village of Bilin reenacted James Cameron's new film Avatar during todays weekly demonstration. Five Palestinian, Israeli and international activists were painted blue, with pointy ears and tales, resembling the Avatar characters. Like Palestinians, the Avatars fight imperialism, although the colonizers have different origins. The Avatars presence in Bilin today symbolizes the united resistance to imperialism of all kinds.

Todays non-violent demonstration was again met with excessive violence by the Israeli army. Sound bombs and tear gas were used, leaving four people directly injured by the canisters. The canisters were shot directly at the protesters, which is in violation with the IDFs firing regulations. Many other activists suffered from tear gas inhalation.

Before coming to Bilin, Israeli activists reported that police were present at their carpool meeting point. Their IDs were checked and some cars reported they were followed by the police. At the Rantis checkpoint, they were delayed once more and activists were obliged to continue their journey by taxi.

Bilin has reason to celebrate this week. Yesterday, preparations for the construction of the new Wall began, which returns 30 per cent of Bilins land to the village. Iyad Burnat, Head of the Bilin Popular Committee speaks of a victory: We feel relieved and feel the non-violent resistance is successful in its aim. Nevertheless, we will continue our struggle against the occupation as Bilin still has another 30 per cent of land that is confiscated by Israel.

Next week Bilin will have a special demonstration, celebrating five years of non-violent resistance and expects a large number of demonstrators. Bilin calls for all its supporters to invite people to join in next weeks demonstration.

  • @BorgHub The occupation began in 1947 when Israel was created. How can there be Israel without occupation. Israel is an illegal state set up on land stolen from the Palestians. If they hadnt stolen there land then there would be no terrorist attacks against Israel because it would not exist. Israel have never tried to end the occupation because to do that all the Jews who occupy the stolen land would have to fuck off back where they came from. The suicide bomber is the attack of the oppressed.

  • No you have just been brainwashed into thinking that Palestine is to blame. A very close personal friend of mine is an aid worker there and he comes here to edit the videos. You cannot say there is any equality between soldiers armed with full riot gear and a few totally unarmed villagers.

Israeli TV has fake video clips showing what they say are 1000 rockets coming from Gaza when the people don't even have any water. All digitally produced.

Get your facts right look for the truth.

  • This would happen at any border that is heavily guarded. In America a few illegals have been killed just for throwing rocks at Border agents. I also saw a demonstration broadcast by RT. The Gazanians put the women at the front so cameras would see they were victimized. I saw one white girl who was with them, probably breathed a little tear gas but they carried her off as if she was mortally wounded. It's a big show and many fall for it.

  • @Goordull : by your way of thinking americain indian lived in the USA and Canada long before Spanish , English people arravied , and now they are put in reverse .. so why not all the americain and canadian returns to their original country ?! Same goes for Australian !

The jew who were persucuted by Hitler , the jew who lived in Germany by 1938 and after " balvor pact" they were exported To PALESTINE !

There were jew , muslin and christian who lived there before 1938 and they all lived pacefuly

  • The zionazis are frightened; you're making them look bad with your peaceful resistance.

  • There is no any "palestinians" or "palestine", they are arabs from neighbor countries. Jews lived in Israel long time before arabs arrived.

Jordan takes 70 fucking % of "palestine", so why no one protesting against Jordan??????????????????????

By this video you can see that our arabs are big artists and clowns.

  • This peaceful demonstration really affected me when I watched it on this worldwide forum. I've been standing up for the rights of the Palestinians ever since.

Palestinians, you never know the difference a little peaceful demonstration can make. Your peaceful actions may be bigger than you realize.
