The flight from Phuket is going to Bangkok old airport (Don Mueang) on takeoff at runway 27. TG630 (seat 32K) This place had heavy rain and stopped. Tune it up the volume to listening to the Roll-Royce Trent engines.

  • The RR trent engines are the most complex with 3 shafts jet engines ever built. With all the titanium ingredients inside. Its always feel so safe to fly in a B777 even when its a full load. She is a really a work horse. Always can feel the over welhming feeling of the take off moment when you hear the RR engines spool as the combustion starts its beyond 100% trusting power for these large aircrafts.

  • Thai never uses GE's on the 777's they tend to use Rolls Royce Trents and answer to mdmnmdllr question that whistling noise is called a Spool up besides i being on Thai Airways international twice i being on 777-300 and 777-200ER.

    cheers

  • Having flown 777 – 300 ER to St Lucia and 777 200 ER to the Maldives, I can confirm that the dreadful noise of the GE 115 is far worse than the Trent 895

  • How long is the flight to Bangkok from Phuket?

  • @mickfs2004 - Correct re: "spool up." Wasn't really asking so much as responding to someone else's question. Anyway ... choice of engine tends to a fleet issue. There will be mixing of makes, from time to time (sometimes there's no choice), but for the most part I believe airlines tend to generally go with the same make to the best possible extent as a matter of efficiency in maintenance.

  • No mountains at either end. The weather might make it interesting, being by the sea and having tropical extremes. Maybe Krabi has mountains?

  • I've heard that Phuket airport can be a tricky airport to fly in and out of due to the mountains etc.

But from this and other landings I've seen on youtube, there doesn't seem to be anything difficult about planes landing here??? Apparently, pilots have special training for this airport.

  • 777-300, on a short flght, woo thats odd.must be like a shuttle flight. love those rolls royce eng.

  • thx for the info yea. (:

  • that engine isnt, no. but another one

  • No, the thinner air at altitude allows for a better true airspeed (TAS), thus resulting in a better ground speed.

  • Would a Jet filght quicker to its airport if it was lower?
