Silent Light is set in a Mennonite community and tells the story of a married man who falls in love with another woman. The dialogue is in Plautdietsch, the language of the Flemish mennonites.
Martin Scorsese called the film "A surprising picture and a very moving one as well."
Truly a special film that once again proves that the power of cinema lies not in telling a story or depending on a narrative, rather it is in creating a world of your own, to make us feel and sense it, as if it were real. There are no characters but only human beings -their inner world is received by us with such minimal gestures, unobtrusively captured by Reygadas. It is a special film. There is something illuminating about it.
