Never heard of Lanois before, but searched Slingblade for this cut. For me it's the singularly most powerful piece I have ever heard. Makes Metalica sound like a hollywood band.

I know I could never thrash like that I never would have found this if I hadn't of just watched sling blade and thought I heard adam jones (like rezner on social network) total surprise the guy has skill but I noticed "improvisation" But listen to tool's triad on lateralus I'm guessing a poor choice of words good artist, good freestyle cover?

That has got to be one of the ugliest guitar tones EVER. And he plays it like electric guitars were always supposed to sound that way.
Awesome.
Lanois is one of those guys (so is Bruce Springsteen) that needs to gobble a buttload of testosterone and make a "shut up and play yer guitar" album before they die.

@vuduegg - If you get the collector's edition DVD (or Director's cut, or whatever it's called), there's a whole section about Daniel Lanois in the special features. He did all the steel guitar work in the soundtrack too. That DVD came out at about the time I had been using the film in classes for 5-6 years, so I had graded a few thousand student essays and lectured on it more times than I can recall. Great film; great soundtrack.

Fantastic. I have this on videotape somewhere. I would love to see this posted in an HQ or HD version in order to have even better sound. I remember it had an even more awesome sound - crisper and more dynamic range.
