After the National Anthems and a political speech, the 2007 UAW Bargaining Convention Rules Committee presented the rules for the Convention.

Like the rest of those gathered inside Cobo Hall, we assumed ratification of The Rules would be a formality, so we changed videotapes . . . just as Mike Parker rose with a point of order to make.

Parker proposed the following amendment to the rules for the 2007 Bargaining Convention:

"The agenda for the Wednesday morning session will be Organizing to Fight Back. This session will cover how we can mobilize our members, build solidarity, resist company whipsawing and divisive strategies like Two Tier and pitting older workers against younger workers. To make time for this session, short presentation summaries will be used instead of reading the complete resolution book and guest speakers will be asked to keep their comments brief . . ."

As UAW member and Soldier of Solidarity Gregg Shotwell, who was covering the convention for The Uncommon Sense newspaper put it:

"Mike Parker, a delegate from Local 1700, busted the seams of uniform decorum before Gettelfinger could pound the podium."

  • uaw are nothin but a bunch of retards, who have been robbing the team members of every plant across the u.s. for the past 70- years theyve been raping the u.s. constitution by using our money without our consent and no reprimands have been made to workers, what is the uaw now??

  • @eastbay5l0 Spoken like a true manager. New UAW members make $14/hr. In other words, union autoworkers had their wages cut in half. How many hedge-fund managers, Wall Street CEOs/VPs & other corporate profiteers of American labor "sacrificed" half their income? None. Or the same number who (even we were to take you at your childish, mean-spirited word) think picking on "retards" is cool. Save your venom for the real culprits – unless your whole point in picking on workers is to impress bosses.

  • @eastbay5l0 @eastbay5l0 My mistake, Eastbay. Totally misread. That whole "team" thing always throws me off. And you have to understand that 99.9% of the people who comment here make no distinction between the uaw rank-and-file and uaw executive sellouts. You're absolutely right and it's high time the shop floor turn over the business unionism apple cart. Or join the UE or IWW? Hope you and the other NUMMI folk are hangin' in. Solidarity!

  • SMART BUS, Detroit, MI. The UAW President is fighting hard to get a racist his job back after he was fired for threatening Obama while using Racial overtones. This guy had also discriminated against a Chaldean American. The UAW has no credibility when it comes to fighting against discrimination and hard working decent people. • I don't know the details of the specific incidents you are referring to. I do know that the UAW has a proud history of promoting racial equality since its very inception, through Reuther's support of Dr. King, all the way up through being among the first supporters of Pres. Obama. Cherry-picking members of any group and extrapolating their behavior to represent the entire group is as bad as what you are accusing.

  • The unions are the ones who bankrupt the auto industry.

  • Really? Were they the ones who sold the EV1's battery patent to Chevron? How do you determine who's fair day's work translates into people who can buy cars, pay for health care, send their kids to college, retire? Our labor creates ALL wealth.

  • i am a former team member for toyota and i am speaking from experience, i paid over 60 bucks a month to the UAW, and so did all 4000 of my coworkers at the old nummi plant and now where is that money>?>?the leaders of the "UAW" spent it on expensive dinners and vacations, and private parties for uaw leadership, so flint public, fuck the UAW, they never did shit for me. in the past UAW was really a strong union,, but now their too busy robbing the team members across america.

  • and fuck Toyota, if you buy a toyota, u support foreign made production, and you are not contributing to the american economy.....buy american made

  • i think u read my opinion wrong, i said the uaw are retards, like the president and managers of the uaw, i am speaking for the team members so read the comment twice before u start talkin, fuck the UAW!!!!!

  • In hindsight, I find the mindset at that meeting to be amusing.
