Ezra Levant Responds To The CBC's Attack On Quebecor.

Background: CBC starting to feel heat at its feet

"It looks like CBC folks are getting a little touchy when it comes to my attempts to expose them as scofflaws who don't want to tell the public how they spend our tax dollars.

For about a year now I've been writing stories about their refusal to release documents through the access to information system and their refusal to comply with a federal court order to hand over certain documents to the federal information commissioner. This week CBC tried to strike back by making insane claims about Quebecor, the parent company of this paper.

If CBC would stop spending millions of dollars on lawyer's fees and court challenges to stop us, and the rest of the public, from seeing how it spends its annual $1.1-billion subsidy, the headaches would go away.

Instead it doubles down, defies an independent officer of Parliament, tells the MPs that pay its bills that even they can't tell it what to release, and then appeal a court order calling on it to be more open.

On Tuesday, CBC released a document on its website called, "What Quebecor won't tell you about its attacks on the public broadcaster." The state broadcaster claims that Quebecor has "received more than half a billion dollars in direct and indirect subsidies and benefits from Canadian taxpayers over the past three years."

Of course this is a load of bull."

  • Where was Ezra when I was alone in Toronto fighting the CBC? Divide and conquer, strategy.

Good job Ezra. I wish I was still in Canada so I could stand beside you in your fight!

  • "pulling babies from incubators"

    .........

  • Ezra, the useful idiot, lying and braying like a donkey for his corporate masters. Lying about how much subsidy Quebecor sucks up from the taxpayer...the 23 million in taxpayer subsidies to start Toronto Suntv alone. And thats the tip of the iceberg. Funny how a billionaire like peladeau needs public funds to start a "news" channel dedicated to eliminating their competition in Quebec...using taxpayer money.

It would be funny if it wasn't just so damn sad.

  • His main point is the complete lack of transparency from the CBC. That's a very legitimate concern.

I believe public broadcasting still has its place - I love CBC - but what is wrong with asking them to disclose how money is being spent? @curious007cur?

  • He's angry about the subsidy the CBC gets, not mention that his boss PKP and Qubecor have taken subsidies themselves along with other "private" broadcasters. its typical do as I say and not as I do.

  • @kittensradio

Oil companies get $2 billion a year in Canadian taxpayer subsidies.

    You dispute the term "subsidy".

Ezra calls CBC's "subsidy" a bailout you don't dispute this.

    Who is being asinine?

Oh kitten of nine ass wipes?

  • @kittensradio

Guess what kitten ... public broadcasting is just that public broadcasting.

Even your capitalist dream state America has "public broadcasting".

What is good for those gandering on American Television is good for the Canadian Geese as well.

Ezra likes creating a tempest in a teapot. (ignoring his own black kettle)

Especially if his boss and paymaster Quebecor can profit from it by destroying all news competition in Quebec.

    Conflict of interest ... much?

  • If you dislike capitalism so much, maybe you should leave Canada.

  • @curious007cur You posted that it was inconsistent to defund the CBC because large industry gets tax breaks. That is asinine. You then misread my comment and asked(?) me if I'd said that oil companies don't make enough profit, so it's okay to subsidize them. What the hell does that even mean? I never said anything like that. You then went on to mock me for 'following' Ezra, as you comment on his videos and make up fallacies and retarded interpretations of what I say.

  • @kittensradio

    I read your comment kitten.

You just didn't like my reply.

The OIL IN THE GROUND (and tar) IS OWNED BY CANADA!!!

And thus owned by canadians ... hence we should not have to "subsidize them as well" as allowing them to suck out this national black gold for next to nothing in taxes ... WHILE THEY ARE MAKING HUGE PROFITS OFF US. And then ship their privateer product and profits down to Texas to be refined.

Oil barons don't need $2 billion in Canadian tax money.
