Emancipation ended slavery but only to replace it an American form of apartheid, euphemistically known as Jim Crow, used to keep African Americans as second class citizens. This four-part series constitutes a major cinematic achievement covering the years between Reconstruction and Civil Rights.

  • Isn't it funny that in the 2 world wars the US fought for Democracy;but meanwhile the blacks in the US weren't getting any of that democracy that America were fighting for.

  • Of course there was (and is) racism in the US North and Canada, but it's almost unbelieveable that segregation was codified and made 'legal' in the US South...
