The boss was based on a childhood trauma of on of the designers, where he thought he saw a Rape Scene take place in a Theatre.
You can see the shape of a Fetus in Giygas, and the path to him looks like a Baby Delivery Tube in the mommy.
Yeah, it was designed to be gross. :\
