Tribal Fusion belly dance to the Alice In Chains song "Whale and Wasp". This is a choreography I designed dancing with the almighty sword.

The first time I ever heard this song I got weepy. It reminds me of longing for something important to me. This song has a bitter-sweet quality to it, just like life. It is a very beautiful song and I hope you enjoy it too.

A problem I did run into with balancing my sword was having very sweaty hands since it was so hot in my house. I live in the subtropics. So when I needed to balance the sword on the top of my hand, things got a bit shaky and I could feel the steel slipping around on my hand. I'll keep this in mind for future performances.

Also, the grip on this sword is so skinny I feel like I'm holding a pencil! What a terrible ergonomic design. And with wet hands I had trouble holding it steady over head. I think I will wrap the handle with hemp twine to build up the grip and also prevent slipping if my palms are sweaty.

The decorative handle on the sword is beautiful, but I have had trouble in the past with it catching on my chainmale skirt or coin belt. In the future, I will not buy another sword with such useless features.

I would like to come up with a more creative way of removing the sword from my head. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks for any input! Bye bye.

  • @TheLisarhonda Thank you. I'm glad you appreciate this. I find dance very therapeutic and honestly...am mostly inspired to do a moving meditation like this when I'm blue. Not always, but just saying...and it totally helps lift my spirit. Something very empowering in movement and music therapy. Very healing.

  • are you wearing chain mail? I can't tell.. it looks like it.

  • I sure am. That skirt is soooo heavy.

  • very nice, your hands are so beautiful!!!

  • Thanks, Eugenia :-) As my first dance teacher you may recall I never knew what to do with my hands and loved to study everything you did with yours. Hands are so expressive, like eyes and other types of body language.

  • You are easy on the eyes with this :)

  • Aww, you cut it short on Don't follow! Nonetheless, beautiful!!!

  • The only reason I came across this video was b/c of "Whale & Wasp" but glad I did pretty damn cool video..... Only one word this tune is EPIC!!!!!!!!! And you couldn't pick a better tune!

  • I always wear fingerless gloves and a scarf or headband. Makes things a lot easier. ;)

You dance very gracefully and with so much feeling!

  • WOW!

  • Very nice. Try using a non slippery head scarf, & waxing the balance part of the sword with bees wax.
