Eltham Stephen Lawrence Edit

The recent convictions in the Stephen Lawrence trial have caused some controversy. It seems no effort will be spared to bring the killers to justice. However, some serious questions need to be asked of media coverage of the case. Was a fair trial even possible, given the level of frenzied media reporting?

Newspapers have jeopardised the outcome of trial proceedings before. And it is becoming increasingly obvious that editors shrink from covering violent crimes by ethnics because of fears of accusations of racism.

The suggestion is the huge media attention was accorded the case simply because Gary Dobson and David Norris are white.

Why should race even come into a fucking sentencing anyway?!?! the worst possible crime has happened anway... MURDER. A person (or gang) killed a person. Why should it matter if a white killed a black or a black killed a white. We are all people at the end of the day and should work together. Motives of a killing is irrelevant in my opinion. A killing should just get a straight up sentencing of a TRUE life sentence regardless of motives.

Surely highlighting a disparity should help resolve the imbalance by making everyone aware that treatment has not been equal? Are you saying that we should stay quiet, and do nothing? @SpookyXL5 My solution would be to eliminate race from each murder. A murder is a murder and the perpetrator should be given a straight up life sentence regardless of whether there was a racial motive or not. I don't know why the court even bother deciding if a murder is racist or not. A murder should result in the largest of punishments. I can't believe that there is more room to give a murderer more years in jail due to race.

The black victims of attacks from whites don't make the court ruling to determine that it was a racist attack. On the flip side, when a white person is attacked by a group of blacks, the blacks again don't make the ruling to determine that it wasnt a racist attack. I don't understand why the anger from your viewers is channeled towards black people as opposed to the court.
