Australian Journalist and Russian Researcher, Tim Byrnes, delivers his research in a speech at the Australian National University's (ANU) School of Islamic and Central Asian Studies. Tim was a journalist during the 2008 conflict and revisited the region of south ossetia in December 2010 and January 2011.

  • Lionel told me that he was in Gori moments after Russian tanks pulled out. He told me that he could "smell the diesel fumes..." He told me that he went to the front with Giorgiy...the guy with the VW Passat.

    Lionel told me a lot about quite a few things. I wish he would have just kept his big mouth shut. I can't say for certain what was true and what wasn't, but I'm leaning toward him having told me the truth.
