You're not supposed to see that he's hurting unless very subtly. Mr. Darcy was a very reserved man. Most wealthy educated men were back there.

A really egoless person is not humble at all. He is neither arrogant nor humble; he is simply himself.

"By you, I was properly humbled. I came to you without a doubt of my reception. You showed me how insufficient were all my pretensions to please a woman worthy of being pleased." -Jane Austen

This quote from the book is so romantic and so is this scene! I've watched this version about 50 times because I love it so much! It's the BEST!!

Me too!! He seems so vulnerable! I love Colin Firth but Matthew was just... perfect. You know he is snobbish and annoyed at everything, but when he looks at Elizabeth, his expression softens! And I always think of him when I think of Darcy :)

After seeing the 2005 version, I must say I found it superior in all regards to the BBC series. Yes, the latter is a direct text-to-screen transfer, but on screen, you get more opportunities to enhance the story and production, which is exactly what the 2005 version did. Also, Keira Knightley carried the movie with such grace I seriously doubt any other actress would have demonstrated, One of my fav all-time movies, no doubt.

What could possibly be worse than the sad need of the chick lit lovers to need the 'I love you, I love yous' all over the place so they can sigh and get off on it. The fact that it has no place in a work by Austen is apparently irrelevant.Pathetic.
