why dont galaxies come together to form balls like stars do?

They have different nature. Indeed they are several kinds of galaxies, Ellipticals (E), Lenticulars(S0) Spirals(Sa,...,Sd and Irregulars (I). Elliptical galaxies are more concentrated (like a star) and Spirlas and Irregulars are "diffuse" flat objects. Visit the nasa site or hubble space telescope site, they have amazing images.

thas very nice, but it would have been better with a suitable background classic mussic, music from the cosmos serie of sagan, or even andean music...anyway
