No, they lived happily ever after. You can interpret that how you will, but the antagonist doesn't return to cause problems for them. In the movie Shrek, there is an open ending, and then a sequel. That's why writers leave endings open, so that you can imagine what is going to happen next, and so that they are free to continue the story from where the first left off.

In (1/2) I tried make you realize its correct to assume that the prince and princess living happily ever after, meant that they stayed married and had a great life together. Thats how this movies are meant to be analyzed. Its the exact same way with "stray", its correct to assume the cat to have gotten a home, because in this short film everything points to that. Why is that so hard to understand? (2/2)

You're right. Living happily ever after explains everything. It means they got a divorce, the prince went to rave parties fucking women from the age 20-25 until he became 70 and rode fast cars and motorcycles. The princess became an underwear model and she spent her life feeding men false dreams and found enormous joy in their tears of unfulfilled dreams.

Your way of thinking allows this to be the plot of a disney movie for 7 year olds, but its not. The prince and princess stayed married. (1/2)

That's true, it could just as likely turn into a robot tyrannosaurus etc. It's an open ended work of fiction.

I haven't seen the movie you mentioned, but I don't have to. Why are some works of fiction open ended, and others are not? For example, once upon a time, a princess met a prince; they got married and lived happily ever after. There is no "what about X", nothing else is possible because you know how it ends.

Have you seen memento? The end there doesn't show that he keeps on killing, but we still know he did.

You not being able to realize there actually is one more correct way of analyzing what happened after the end is adorable. According to your way of thinking, what happened after this could just as likely be the cat turning into a robot tyrannosaurus rex with octopus feet and spectacles. You are either being deliberately difficult to reason with, or you have no idea about fiction at all.

It doesn't matter what is implied or hinted towards. Just like the ending of La Haine. We don't know what isn't shown (ie, the cat getting adopted), we only know what is shown (ie, the cat running away, not getting adopted). If anything, I would say that it suggests that the cat isn't adopted, because where do you adopt cats from? That's right, the animal shelter. The place he ran away from.
