I feel it's important to make sure we all take some precautionary measures. It's difficult to say how much iodine everyone needs to protect themselves. Obviously children need a lot less than adults, but it's more complicated than that because everyone's thyroid functions differently. Many people have been under a lot of stress in their lives & consume a lot of junk food, so many people already have a compromised thyroid gland & need more thyroid support. You'll have to do more research yourself, possibly consult an expert you trust, trust your intuition & listen to your body.

There's a good chance your local health food store, pharmacy & grocery store are all already sold out of kelp & potassium iodide so I recommend researching & purchasing as many of the listed products below, as well as look into a "thyroid support" product. Look for a thyroid support supplement that has potassium iodide (iodine), kelp or bladderwrack in it. When I went to the health food stores a couple days ago here in Victoria, BC, they all had tons of thyroid support products. :)

I'm assuming health food stores are more likely to be sold out of kelp or potassium iodide, so even if you're against supporting places like Walmart, you may want to check their supplement section anyway.

If everything's sold out, check http://www.vitacost.com because they're a lot cheaper than most online health food stores & they deliver quickly. I believe they're all sold out of kelp, but guarantee they have some of the other products listed below. Check your local stores for these products before ordering online because I guarantee they'll have at least some of them.

FYI: If you consume too much iodine, it can cause you to feel sick & could eventually manifest in what's called hyperthyroidism, but I'm not really worried about this because I'm not planning to take the thyroid support long term. My plan is to take it until everything cools down in Japan.

Something I will never stop doing is consuming superfoods like chlorella, bee pollen, reishi, aloe vera & various seaweeds that keep my thyroid & immune system strong. We have no idea what our planet is in for, so it's a good idea to consume these superfoods regularly, avoid junk food & eat as much organic, healthy raw foods as you can so your body is more likely to withstand anything harmful that comes your way.

Kelp
NOTE: Taking kelp with selenium is probably a good idea. Selenium & iodine are two minerals which are critically important in the proper functioning of the thyroid.

Miso- A lot of people are recommending miso, but I recommend going easy on the miso because soy has been known to negatively affect the thyroid to some degree. Look into chickpea miso, which would be better for you.

Consuming enough fiber throughout the day is important since fiber helps move toxins through the body quickly.

Kombu is another seaweed that helps support the thyroid. If you live near an Asian market, you may want to check to see if they have kelp or kombu left.

ANTI-RADIATION SMOOTHIE RECIPE
1 cup mixed fruit (of your choice)
2 handfuls organic baby spinach
1/4 cup kelp (rinsed & soaked in water for approx. 20 mins)
1 tsp hemp seed (optional)
tsp aloe vera juice (optional)
tbsp bee pollen (a good idea)
1/2 tsp spirulina (a good idea)
1 tsp liquid chlorella (a REALLY good idea)
honey or some other natural sweetener to sweeten
water (more or less depending on consistency you want)

This smoothie has a slight kelp taste, but overall, the fruit disguises the taste.

NOTE- Panic & any kind of stress suppresses the thyroid & your immune system, so do your best to listen to relaxing music, meditate & focus on love throughout the day.
