Hannibal, Missouri is the hometown of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, AKA Mark Twain, author of the book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Every summer the town hosts, Tom Sawyer Days, with a Tom Sawyer look-alike and fence painting contest.

This is one in a series of "SmallTown American Celebrations" telling the stories of small towns that celebrate their lives and identities in seemingly silly and frivolous ways; in fact, they are an expression of their own unique identity. Celebrants compete in contests for little reward other than the fun of having done it.
