Unfortunately most red blooded westerners chose to believe GW. I used to drive a cab in Mississauga during the days of the initial invasion. Struck up a conversation with a fare going downtown Toronto. "Invade iraq for oil? Bleh thats impossible. They're gone to get the nukes from Saddam!" were the words that came from the 50 something business executive's mouth. And similar sentiments echoed from the rest of the public i spoke with. You know who i think is to blame? Our wonderful media.
