DSI had ZERO to do with this live shooting, and got it from a Buttsteak fan who shot several shows down in Atlanta GA in the 1990s. I feel like an ass for forgetting his name so should he come across this, hope he appreciates that the band has approved the uploading of this. This is a 2 camera shot that in my opinion FUCKING ROCKS. I havent seen any footage to date of this band on youtube.

Buttsteak came together when members of a Tidewater band The Heretics and another one called Nocturnal Zoo decided to upset the apple cart of music in southern VA. An initial full length was self issued from a session with one Bob Smith which paved the way (along with a visit to Baltimore) for a deal with Merkin and later Go-Kart. Some highlights of the band's career include a PEEL Session, press in SCREW Magazine & a visit to WRSU in NJ coinciding with a stay with a really great guy Tom Crow who booked shows at Court Tavern. After many line up changes & years of slugging it out, Buttsteak folded shop, some of the members settled in Baltimore & 1 of them Mikel Bowen also has gotten in to film and can be found in our youtube friends. DSI happened to use a Buttsteak song on 1 of the early 90s comp tapes, making their inclusion here even more key.

2 songs here, don't know the title to the first & then "The first chorus is up to your interpretation"

  • I still have a demo tape from these guys called 'excerpts'. "All Fags aboard" is great!

  • great video. would love to see some video from the moroccan vd days.. or anything where rob and his set are visible. whoever has it, give it up!

  • That second song is "Fanning The Queen (Quaquatora)" from Men Who Pause. I would wager that today's much-lauded Baltimore scene owes much to the antics of these Norfolk transplants -- if not in terms of music, then in terms of absurd humor and live madness. The first time I saw them, in fall 1994 at some sort of '70s night at Memory Lane, the infamous "buttcake" (on guitarist Jim Glass's posterior) made an appearance. Oswald is a force of nature.

  • haaa of course you were....it's meeee....secretly on here not using my name. but you already got the link from my farcebook. :)

  • In ref to the first comment... i think i was the friend with the kitten they stayed with.... man, Buttsteak was always FUN!

  • ahhh Buttsteak was one great band...tho never quite the same without Julie. i may have even been at this show. they slept at my friend's place after a Midtown Music Hall show one night and their kitten got trapped in the drummer's hair. nice.

  • @dirtbuck Go for it, I would love to see more footage, as I have little idea what we actually looked like.

  • Buttsteak at the height of their powers here. The shows surrounding the MWP record were legendary. Too bad Ron is blocking the superb drumming of Mr. Oswald but you get the idea - best drummer I've ever seen. Thanks for posting!

  • Those shows from '94 at the Highlander were awesome. Would love to see them again. Buttsteak just wiped out whoever else was on the bill.

  • I might be able to help with more Buttsteak video footage, if there is interest, I will post.. This might be my footage as a matter of fact. I also have two shows with Julie from 94...? don't know... evs... LMK if I should/ if it's ok that I post. Ron...? Mike...?
