I made this a while back based off of Cog's great tutorial (http://www.cogfilms.com). It's nothing more than a plane with a wave modifier and several animated textures applied to it. It's been a while since I made this one, and since then, Cog has come out with a much better tutorial for ocean waves, for which, I also have a video.

UPDATE: Check out my newer ocean video here:

  • beautiful, I have to try this. great work, how long did it take to render, and can you put in on repeat?

  • @LouiseRed89 This technique renders very very fast, but as many commenters have noted, it looks pretty crappy. However, it doesn't even need to repeat, as it uses procedural textures built into Blender. Thus, it can keep going forever without the need to create tileable textures or loopable animations. For a way better water render, see the link in this video's description.

  • oh mi god..how u did that?? it's fantastic!

  • There's a tutorial in the video description.

  • How did you do that?!
