It is a tradition in my Peace Corps site of Tactic, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala for the young men in town to kick and throw bolas de fuego (balls of fire) at each other the day after the Quema del Diablo. This video is a short preview of the action (which lasted for about 4 hours), and I intend to put up an extended version when I get all the footage edited. For more information about my Peace Corps experience you can check out my blog at http://kgriffin.blogspot.com.
You take trapo (a piece of cloth), soak it in gasoline, and then wrap it in alambre (metal wire). Alambre is what you would use to make a chain link fence, and they sell it in big rolls at hardware stores here. The size of your fireball depends on the size of the trapo you use. The alambre has to be wrapped tightly, otherwise the ball will fall apart. On some of the fireballs, they would tie on another piece of metal so it can be swung and flung easier.
Have fun.
