ASHTON - Only 2 days ago did the Fremont Education board decide to host the emergency meeting.

The Fremont School board is considering declaring a financial emergency and released new breakdowns of the 1.2 million dollar deficit.

A patron in the audience brought up some points, "We're so worried about not having money, but yet we're adding classrooms, we're looking at adding an air conditioning system... And cars and trucks... A standalone gym, bus garage, buildings. The board has the option to open the budget and move plant facility, plant facility is not set." She had applause half way through her comments.

The School Board explained that plant facility funds are not able to be used for anything other than building/expansion.

A man disagreed, "Scott last night just passed a bill that says you can take money out of plant facilities."

That would change everything but board is unconvinced that includes plant facilities.

While at the meeting I tried to ask Superintendent Gary Parker about a new allegation.

I received an email claiming Parker has hired people to deem the track in the South Fremont HS as un-certified, to allow a new football field to be built and give that track as additional playground space to Central Elementary.

He declined to comment on camera but denied the allegation.

The bill that passed in the senate yesterday does allow $9.9-million dollars in maintenance funds to be re-located to help shore up the budget during the recession.

The Fremont School Board is not convinced that will allow them to use plant facility funds.

We will let you know when we find out whether the Fremont District School Board declares the financial emergency.

If you would like to interview with our Upper Valley Reporter about your concerns on the district's problems, please email Steven Pope at STEVENP@KIDK.COM

This is our third piece on Fremont School District's financial troubles, and will continue to follow the story.
