After a sealer coat, the first coat of oil varnish goes on with a sable/blend brush. A few tunes were played as we waited for it to dry between coats. Arnie Anderson's workshop. Northern Minnesota.

  • @redviolin1231 I lost your email, but I'm not sure about the technicalities of your varnish drying soft. I've ordered mine from Internat'l violin and have had good luck with a good finish. Yes, send some pics!

  • i use behlen's violin varnish. and it gets tacky SO quickly its hard to get a good smooth finish. I've heard that thinning it even a little bit will thin the resins in the wood. I went on yahoo answers and asked about it and this is one of the answers i got. just looking for clarity "Don't thin it at all. is these natural resins that carry the sound through the wood.

  • help! question, what do you use as a sealer? can i make one from house hold items? not arabic gum? thanks!
